12. Reduce overall project duration

This is also called “crashing” a project. To reduce overall project duration, reduce the duration of only those tasks that are considered critical. When you reduce duration of critical tasks, it is possible that non-critical tasks can become critical. When crashing a project, you should not only look at critical tasks but also availability of men and money. This also called resource leveling.

Let us look at the effect of crashing your project.

As scheduled so far, the Finish date is 5/31/11

Now, let us reduce the duration of selected tasks.

Now look at the change in the Finish date of your project. It was reduced from 5/31/11 to 4/18/11
