Goals that require a collaboration of skills, knowledge, and attitudes are best achieved by a group of individuals who share the same goals – a team. People say that a task is completed with a sense of urgency and efficiency when there are more than two heads mutually working on it. This is especially true in companies and organizations. In a workplace setting, an organization achieves more and produces better results with the shared work of teams rather than an individual work. This is basically what a team is made for – to work together as one in reaching for a common goal.
How is a team created and developed? What are the considerations in selecting individuals for the team? These are just some of the basic concepts of a team that every existing team should be aware of. The building and developing of a team is not that easy. There are phases of team development that every team must go through. Another fact is that not all teams are permanent; there are teams that get disbanded for reasons like poor teamwork or the nature of the team itself such as purposefully forming a team for a project and dissolving it after it has been completed.
The quality of a team depends on many factors such as team building and team conflict resolution. It is said that high performing teams are strengthened by the experiences they gained from the team building activities, which bind them together as a cohesive unit. Team bonding and socialization inside and outside of work develop a stronger collaboration and more enhanced relationship among team members. Apart from team building, a high performing team is also tested and proven by the way it manages conflicts within the team. Disagreements among team members occur from poor communication, weak leadership, personality differences, and many other factors, which will be further discussed in this article set.
