There are a number of popular scholarships and grants that students will want to look for. While obtaining these scholarships can be challenging, the rewards are well worth it. One of the largest sources of both scholarships and grants is the U.S. Department of Education. It is estimated that this federal student aid program provides almost $60 billion per year in the form of scholarships, grants, and student loans.
This is a highly reliable source of funding that millions of students apply for each year. The U.S. government reserves a lot of money for education due to imbalances in their spending. This has created a number of opportunities for students who are wise enough to take them.
Alexander Graham Bell Scholarship – If you are the parent of a child who is under six years of age, and they have excessive hearing loss, this scholarship will allow you to pay for the education of the child as well as their rehabilitation. This money is also available for children who fall between the ages of 5 and 19. The scholarship will pay for children who attend science or art related courses during weekends or the summer.
Academic Academy of Energy – This organization offers the Award of Excellence Scholarship to students with asthma who are seniors in high school. The money from this scholarship may be used to pay for books or tuition, and the money can be applied to either a two year or four year educational institution. The money may also be used at vocational schools.
American Council of the Blind – The scholarship from this program is offered to students who are legally blind. They can be either a U.S. resident alien or a U.S. citizen. This organization will give out no more than 12 scholarships per year, and they will range from one thousand dollars to five thousand dollars.

Altrusa International of Grand Rapid Scholarship – This scholarship is geared towards students who have not obtained any post secondary education since their completion of high school. This scholarship is also geared towards students who entered college after their high school graduation, but did not complete their studies. The students must also be in need of financial aid, and they must also have a minimum grade point average. Applicants will need to send a letter of recommendation, and the applicants who are selected will also be interviewed.
American Legion Auxiliary Nontraditional Scholarship – Applicants for this scholarship are required to be the relatives of a veteran. They should also be older than 22 years of age, and it should be their very first year in college. In addition to colleges, vocational schools are acceptable as well.
Business and Professional Women Foundation Career Advancement Scholarships – This scholarship promotes the success of women who are working in fields related to research and education. Applicants for this scholarship are expected to be women who are looking for more education to continue their careers, or for women who wish to enter the work force. The applicants must be 25 years of age or older, and they must be placed in an educational program from an accredited institution. From the date they are given the grant, students are expected to finish school in the following 24 months. This scholarship is also geared towards women who have expressed a great need for financial aid.
Boren Fellowship – This is a grant that is given to graduate students who are studying cultures or languages that are considered an important part of the national security of the United States. The money from this grant can be used for overseas education programs, and it can also be used in the United States. The amount of this grant is $28,000 per year, and the program is renewable.
The primary requirements of this grant is that applicants must be U.S. citizens, and a service requirement may be made as well.
Chinese American Physicians Society Scholarship – This scholarship is open to all students who are majoring in a medical field. The race or religion of the student is not taken into consideration. However, the student must be use their skills to assist the Chinese community after they have finished school. This scholarship can be as much as $3000.
