The mind is the single most powerful tool that can control every movement and every thought. It comprises of the conscious and the subconscious mind. The conscious mind functions to interpret data that is being sent into the brain, and is used to develop and enhance our mind and thought process. Although only a fraction of our brain activity is done through our conscious mind, it is considered very important and delicate because it controls the information being sent to the subconscious mind.
You probably know that we have control over our conscious mind, but you probably are not aware that although we have the willpower over it, we often neglect this capability. Due to our hectic lifestyle, we often do not pay too much attention to what goes on in our minds. Studies show that human beings have about 60,000 thoughts daily, and yet, if someone was to ask you what these were, you will most likely only remember 5% of it.
Part of developing a desirable personality is being able to program your conscious mind to function in a way that will help you achieve this goal. Your conscious mind needs to be structured accordingly so that it will help you become presentable and likeable, instead of hindering you from being one.
The following are ways that will help you program your conscious mind.
Delaying or Avoiding Pleasure
One way to discipline your mind is to purposefully delay or avoid pleasure, this means you need to stay away from things that you find enjoyment in. For example, if you always eat ice cream after dinner, try to skip it several times. Or if you cannot bear that, you can at least let it wait until about 2 hours after dinner. This mild “torment” will trigger emotional responses in the form of behavior, and if you resist the temptation to give in, you are then weakening the effects of the emotional aspect of your brain, and instead strengthen the logical aspect of it.
Creating an Ideal Environment for Your Subconscious Mind
Since the conscious mind is like the “captain of the ship,” you need to fill it with ideas, images, and even beliefs of what you want so that it will feed the subconscious mind with all these. To make it more realistic and encouraging, you should constantly put yourself in the company of people who you want to emulate. People with positive auras and good personalities will motivate and push you to be like them. Once your subconscious mind takes in all of these, then you are already programming your conscious mind according to your preferences.
Getting Rid of Negative Energies
Since childhood, although more often than not it was unintentional, we learned about limitations. We often heard our parents and teachers say “No, you cannot do that” or “That is not going to work,” and many other negative lines. Though these were meant with the best of intentions, these words nevertheless taught us to set limitations to ourselves.
But now that we understand how the conscious mind works and what it can do (with the help of the subconscious mind, of course), you should already realize that setting limitations is not always a good thing.
For example, if you want to become a great public speaker, you should not tell yourself that it is “an impossible feat” or “an overly ambitious goal” because this will only hinder you from becoming such. You can be whatever you want to be so as long as you believe it. Surround yourself with positive energies by changing your mindset.
Your very own thoughts and beliefs are important because once they are in your conscious mind they can be stored in your subconscious mind. It is therefore necessary that you program your conscious mind carefully. By programming your mind with all these healthy and positive thoughts, your subconscious mind will automatically follow all these instructions and work to your advantage.
Simply put, whatever you plant in your conscious mind will be reaped in your subconscious. What the conscious mind creates will be made into reality by the subconscious mind. Now you know how powerful our mind can be.
