Being able to live a life filled with satisfaction, we hope to give fulfillment to our plans and ambitions. We want to have a good job, land a successful career, build a happy family, and create long-lasting friendships. We refer to these things as goals. We set goals because we want to make life worthwhile and meaningful to live; a life with a purpose is a life worth living for. It is whole lot different from living each day with nothing to motivate us and nothing to work hard for. When goals are defined, we strive and work hard to achieve. When we get what we want, a feeling of contentment sets in.
There are deeper and more gratifying reasons for setting our individual goals in both personal and professional aspects of our lives.
Level of Self-Confidence Increases
When we know what we want, we have the drive and enthusiasm to do it. What is even more fulfilling is when we are able to achieve a goal that we think is something we cannot attain. In the process of goal setting, tracking and monitoring are important to keep us updated with our own progress.
Does it not give a sense of fulfillment knowing that we have acted upon our goals, not to mention the fact that we are actually capable of completing it? It simply boosts self-confidence and makes us trust personal capabilities even better. It makes us more confident to challenge ourselves with higher and more challenging goals in life.
A good example would be having a goal of completing the project before the targeted deadline in order to impress the supervisor. Once this simple goal is accomplished, there is more confidence in taking up a difficult project. For us not to be disappointed with ourselves, it is always best to start out with simple and easier goals then slowly progress to more difficult ones.
Increased Motivation and Feeling of Satisfaction and Contentment
Effective goal setting does not only build more confidence but also increases motivation for ourselves. We feel more inspired to do things because we know that there is something to look forward to after everything has been done. We know that we will reap the fruits of our labor. It definitely involves an amount of sacrifice and some level of difficulty, but it makes us even more enthusiastic and encouraged to act on our goals because we know what good it could bring to our lives once these are completed.
Apart from the confidence we gain, we take more pride and satisfaction with our achievements. Anything with desirable results or successfully achieved goals is a very rewarding feeling and even changes our individual attitude. We tend to demonstrate more of the “can do” attitude toward challenges. This is because we are confident and we trust that we can complete those goals.
Moreover, our performance level is also enhanced. We tend to make our actions even better when we know that we are doing it right and we see progress. When it is a very important goal in life the level of happiness we experience is comparably higher. The impact it creates is just different and we simply bring out the best to our lives.
More Achievement and Success in Life
As we complete more and more goals, we also gather more accomplishments in various aspects of our lives. At work, for example, we can start out with simple goals like finishing the project and getting high performance appraisal and eventually, we can set a goal of leveling up in our position or job designation because we think we can do it. Since our goals vary in the various aspects of our life, we tend to set more goals when achievements start pouring in.
Goal setting can give us a lot of benefits, but this has to be done effectively. With efficient goal setting, we are leading ourselves to a better, more satisfying way of living. We can experience all the benefits it can bring and the impact it can create to our lives.
