Learning how to manage your emotions can bring great success. We are all human beings, and this means we all have emotions. No matter how rich or poor you are, and regardless of where you come from, you will be prone to a variety of different emotions on a daily basis. Sometimes you will be joyful, while at other times you will be sad, jealous, or even angry.
While there is nothing wrong with emotions themselves, there is something wrong when you are not able to manage these emotions. Inability to manage emotions can lead to a variety of different problems, and while some of these problems may be minor, others can be major. In fact, in the worst of cases, some people end up in prison because of their inability to control themselves.
A good example of this are people who have bad tempers. These are the type of people who become angry at the slightest provocation. If they think you are looking at them in the wrong way, or if they feel they have been disrespected, they explode. This is one example of a group of people who are unable to control their emotions.
The other group of people is those individuals who are constantly depressed. Overall, they are constantly unhappy or upset about something. Both these types of people are individuals that most people do not want to associate with. Not only do they tend to do poorly in their professional lives, they also tend to do bad in their personal lives as well.
Most of us fall somewhere in between: we do not get too angry quickly nor do we become sad easily. But everyone has their good and bad moments. The problem is, it is the bad moments which can get you in a lot of trouble. The first step towards managing your emotions is to become more self aware of the type of person you are.
Do not allow yourself to become easily upset or sad over things. When someone makes you angry, instead of reacting immediately, like most people do, take a step back and analyze the situation. While there is nothing wrong with being upset, you must learn how to control your emotions, not the other way around.
Life is full of disappointments and heartache, and you must be prepared to face it. Many people believe that it would be a perfect world if we never had any downfalls or problems. These problems are actually challenges that make us stronger as we overcome them. If everything was easy, life would be boring and people would be weak.
It is our struggles that make us stronger, just like the moth that struggles to get out of its cocoon, the moth that then transforms itself into a butterfly. Some of the most famous and successful people in the world were those who persevered through tumultuous times, who overcame grave difficulties. Problems and setbacks should be expected.
To manage your emotions, it is best to begin developing a positive outlook on life. Learn to see the glass as " being half full" as opposed to "being half empty." While this is not easy to do, like anything, it will take practice. When you have a set back, turn it into a positive as opposed to negative.
For example, if you are a guy, and you are searching for a job, and gets turn down at interviews, instead of beating yourself up over it, you could tell yourself something like this: I was too good for this company, the employer does not deserve a guy like me. I will build a career which is nicer than this." If you begin doing this every time you have a failure or setback you will have a much more fulfilling life.
Studies show that optimists live longer than pessimists. A recent study showed that optimists in general live a lot longer then those who have a pessimistic view of life. Those who are optimistic tend not only to have successful personal relationships, but they also tend to have great professional relationships as well.
People like being around optimists, because they know that no matter how bad things may get, the optimist can always find that ray of light. The optimist is the master of his emotions. While they are not perfect, they control their emotions instead of the other way around.
