According to the book entitled “The Secret”, we become what we think of and how we respond to these situations. Our own thoughts are manifested by our actions. Our mind plays a crucial role in the way we handle events and situations. You may have experienced feeling low and distressed or weary at the end of the day.
If you set your mind too much on the negative, your emotions will correspond to your mind, and will be apparent in your actions. They say that we can choose to be happy or sad, calm or angry, or however we want our day to turn out. You set your mood for the day and a vital factor in conditioning yourself for a good mood is to think of positive thoughts.
The power of positive thinking can transform just about any individual in terms of outlook in life, determination to achieve the goals, and even the interaction with other people. In this article, we will understand the basics of optimism and affirmation and other essential factors affecting it.
Positive Thinking means Optimism
Anything we entertain in our minds that are constructive, helpful, optimistic, and encouraging is a manifestation of positive thinking. Otherwise known as optimism, positive thinking means a kind of mental attitude that allows the mind to register thoughts, perceptions, and mental images that promote growth and success. This type of mental approach expects and reaps favorable outcome. A person with a positive mind experiences joy, happiness, contentment, and success in whatever situation or action is done.
Since being optimistic is apparent in feelings and actions, there are many ways a person can demonstrate positive thinking. These may be in the form of affirmative words and statements, positive gestures, body language, bright and radiant facial expressions, and constructive emotions such as feeling blissful, light-spirited, contented, friendly, and cheerful.
Positive Thinking is Contagious
As earlier mentioned, our thought affects our feelings and actions. The human mind is so powerful that it can make a person go to the extreme in words and actions. Whatever we think is not only shown in what we say or do, but also affects the people around us. In other words, positive thinking is contagious, just as negative thinking also is. Try thinking of happy thoughts the whole time. It will follow that you will also bring out happy emotions. And once you exude these positive feelings towards others, the people you deal with will respond in a positive manner as well.
If you think about it, it is not easy to keep your thoughts positive all the time. Every now and then, we have our down moments. We even go through terrible experiences. It is a matter of having the right mental attitude. Being optimistic to the challenges of life requires a lot of practice and discipline. Some people have mastered the art of being optimistic regardless of the trying circumstances. In the long run, it becomes a natural thing to become affirmative in thinking.
Pessimism versus Optimism
The two terms are obviously contradicting in essence. Many wasted moments, regrets, and “what if’s” happen to some of us because of negative thoughts. Pessimism is destructive in the sense that it diminishes confidence, damages one’s performance, and worse, it affects the bodily system, particularly the mental aspect. Optimism, on the other hand, is everything that a negative mind is not. A positive individual grows and matures with high spirits, blissful atmosphere, and a successful achievement of goals.
If we keep thinking of happy thoughts, the universe will respond to our thoughts. This is why we receive unexpected blessings, we get what we want, or we attain what we have always wished for. In the same way, if we admit negative thoughts, we are most prone to accidents, we do not get what we want, we experience misfortunes, and we get into arguments with people.
Then again, it is a matter of conditioning the mind to yield to constructive and affirmative thinking most of the time. Considering that the mind is powerful, one can always make things happen if there is a willingness to do so.
